McBride/Allerton Gardens

We have visited the National Tropical Botanical Gardens several times before. This site is really a combination of two Gardens - McBride and Allerton. The McBride Garden's mission is focused on native and canoe plants. They do what they can to push back the invasive species and propagate and distribute native plants to others. The Allerton Garden is more of a show garden developed by the wealthy Allertons. Their trust requires the garden be kept in as close to original condition as is possible. We decided that the guide you have when exploring the gardens makes a big difference. The last guide we had must have been a historian so we learned all about the Allertons. This guide was a botanist so we learned much more about the plants.

Look closely. We are standing among the roots.
