We have made the trip back to Minnesota. It will take a few days to readjust our biological clocks. I intend to add one more post - a map of the coffee shops I spent time in while in Kauai. It may take me a while to work this out. So, for now, this will be the last post until the next trip.
We are focusing this blog on our travels. We have the opportunity to take long road trips and will chronicle these trips and offer educational content when feasible. Additional content created by Mark Grabe can be found at http://learningaloud.com

While the master is away ….
This is a situation I did not anticipate. About 5 this morning I started getting notifications from our security camera. The notifications were frequent. My first thought was that there had been a snow storm and the guys who clear our driveway were doing their job. They shovel off the deck. Examining the video this was not the case.
It took me a while to figure it out. The key insight came when I turned on the sound and heard birds chirping. Birds are building a nest on our security light/camera. I watched a few of the videos and finally saw a bird fly. I tried using the mike to yell at the birds, but they did not seem concerned. I could try the siren, but I am not certain what that does and it would really annoy the neighbors if I could not turn it off. I hope we get home before they lay eggs.

Pineapple in Paradise
Another food post. Cindy follows multiple sites focused on Kauai and encountered multiple suggestions to try the Pineapple In Paradise food truck, We happened across the truck in a parking lot after driving the last group of kids back to the airport. The focus is on an "ice cream" made from pineapples that was probably first popularized by Dole (Dole Whip). The local delicacy is made from white pineapples, but all variations are great. This is our first taste this trip. The uniqueness of the Pineapple in Paradise offering is its effort to save the world from plastic waste by not serving in plastic containers. They sell their product in a cone made from a brownie.

Trails for Grandparents and Pregnant Women
I am not much of a trails person. I like to walk on smooth surfaces rather than through mud, over tree roots, and through dangerous terrain. This limits where I can go on Kauai. In investigating the potential of various trails I came across the phrase "grandparents and pregnant ladies, When describing a specific trail, I guess this was a way someone thought necessary to encourage someone like me. We gave part of the Old Club Med Trail a try. The view from the departure site was spectacular and the walking was appropriate for grandparents. One of our kids called and reminded us we should have called to let them know when we had arrived back at the car. Cindy thought it ironic that the roles have reversed since they were adolescents.

Gang is all here
We try to bring our extended family over every other year. Their Spring breaks mostly aligned this year so it is a large gathering. Several condos and cars as well as lots of food from COSTCO are required.
