On our way back across North Dakota, we stopped at the recently opened Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library. We tried to remember whether we had visited any other Presidential Libraries and decided that, if we had, it seemed it was President Carter's.
The Roosevelt Library is a magnificent structure built to blend into the landscape, with a grass-covered roof that allows visitors to walk on top. Large windows throughout provide views of the North Dakota Badlands.
The library's approach is very modern, with lots of fancy tech and even an AI-powered virtual Roosevelt who would answer questions from audience members.
You provide your photo upon entry, and you are then shown several photos in scenes consistent with Roosevelt's life.
There were plenty of carefully explained artifacts and quotes from Roosevelt's life. He kept a travel journal too, although I must admit his adventures were more exotic than ours. I selected a quote quite appropriate for our time.
Cindy had read that Hal and Kathy Gershwan from Grand Forks had made a substantial contribution to the construction of the library and had an outdoor viewing area that now bears their names. I made certain to get a photo.
